Contours Of The Quad in the New Paradigm- Webinar Recording

The webinar on 'Contours of QUAD in the New Paradigm" was conducted as per schedule. The panelists were awesome. It was indeed great to hear their views. It was very educative indeed. The You Tube recording of the webinar is here. All those who missed the event can access it below. It is a full recording and hence it is long. However, if are interested in the subject and have a strategic bent of mind it will be well worth your time. This  discussion on future will be fascinating. We are planning a follow up too.  I thank the CASA forum and ISIC Japan, who have made this happen and gave me a chance to moderate such a discussion.  I also thank the panelists who were brilliant in their exposition.  All the best. Happy viewing.

What was the aim of PLA and CPC?  Why would China, the wannabe superpower use military force against a rising nuclear India, without a clear cut aim? Further, China goes back to its starting point, ostensibly, without achieving its aim. As per our understanding.  Hence the issue compounds.  Understanding this is very important to enable us deal with China better. This is a regressive hyp...

CONTOURS OF THE QUAD IN THE NEW PARADIGM

On 18 February 2021, the third virtual QUAD ministerial meet was held. This was held in the early days of the Biden administration. It indicates a seriousness of intent on the part of all QUAD nations. Issues which came up were :-  Challenges faced by existing international order. Unilateral attempts to change the status quo (without naming China),maritime     security, counter-terrorism, cyber security and humanitarian assistance/disaster relief. The necessity of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" and a global order based on the rule of law. Issues beyond the normal security paradigm figured in the meet. These included quality infrastructure, education and human resource  development, supply chain resilience and cooperation to address climate change. This meet has a special significance on two counts. Firstly. The  press release of the Government of India was headlined as  ‘3rd India-Australia-Japan-USA Quad Ministerial Meeting”. The QUAD is now...

SINO INDIAN LOGJAM: THE UNLIKELY RETURN by Lt Gen P R Shankar (R)

It has proceeded smoothly so far. The common question is - What will the Chinese do next? Is their withdrawal part of a larger strategic design? Will the Chinese regroup and get back at us? If so, what will they do? All these valid questions stem from one fact - the Chinese cannot be trusted. China came to overpower India militarily. However, it was surprised by the Indian response and forced to withdraw....

China’s ‘Dream and Rejuvenation’ was fine till it was peaceful. However its military and economic assertion, threats and coercion, to impose a Chinese global order in accelerated time frames is unacceptable. China took advantage of the pandemic driven humanitarian crisis to reprehensibly progress its geopolitical ambitions.  To top it all it painted itself as the victim of a crisis it virtually perpetuated.  Chinese actions drove the QUAD nations to coalesce.
