INDIA NEEDS TO HAVE 'CHINI KAM' BY LT GEN P R SHANKAR (R)

Profound myopic vision consistent with its turbulent history has led China to squander a strategic opportunity to achieve global greatness when the Wuhan virus broke. If only they were honest about their “Peaceful Rise” rather than being treacherous, they would have been a superpower by now. So anything long-term about Chinese is a carefully cultivated myth. Their invincibility was brutally exposed by our gallant Biharis, Punabis, Sikhs, Thambis and others in Galwan Valley. The action of our boys shows that a united India can ensure “Chini Kam”. It would not only be appropriate for our diabetic population but also for all of us if China is kept at arm’s length. In any case I think the Rubicon has been crossed and ‘Chini Kam’ is inevitable.   Review of the Situation Let us see where we stand now. The agreement to disengage at the Corps Commander level meeting is a baby step in a path where Chinese treachery is the norm. In the meanwhile, PLA continues its mobilization. Coercion attempts

‘SATYAMEVA JAYATE (TRUTH ALONE PREVAILS)’ BY LT GEN P R SHANKAR (R)

AUTHORS REQUEST : KINDLY DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS ARTICLE TO SHARE IT WITH A FRIEND. JUST FORWARD THE LINK PLEASE. ALL THE TROUBLE I TAKE TO  PRESENT AN ARTICLE IS LOST WHEN THIS IS FORWARDED AS A DOWNLOADED SCRIPT. THANKS.   My thoughts are with Col Santosh Babu and our soldiers who sacrificed themselves for us in Galwan. Their bravery will be an example and inspiration for future generations of Indians. They have given their today for our tomorrow.  My heart goes to their families and near and dear ones. My salutes to them.   If you are a Chinese, you would say One Swallow Does Not Make a Summer. If you are an Indian, you would say Out of Small Acorns Grow Mighty Oaks, whenever Galwan is discussed. In battle as in life, truth alone prevails, irrespective of the fact that it is the first casualty of war. However the truth I am alluding to is the sentiment which all Indian soldiers have learned through ages from this saying in Mahabharata Yada yada hi dharmasya glanirbhavati bhara

THE ARMED FORCES OF INDIA : UNYIELDING BY LT GEN P R SHANKAR (R)

If you have chosen to face the Indian Armed Forces,   you have chosen to face death and defeat. Ask the Pakistanis they have the best experience. The Chinese have recently joined their ranks. There is clarity that the Chinese did something typically characteristic of China – “ Attempted a stab in the back ”. Post the agreement of 06 Jun, the Chinese pretended to disengage from the Galwan Area. In doing so, they lured a small party of 16 BIHAR into a premeditated ambush. When reinforcements led by the CO of 16 BIHAR came to the rescue of the ambushed party, they were apparently attacked by a larger Chinese party in hiding. Further reinforcements from the battalion and 3 Medium Regiment, an Artillery unit deployed in the vicinity rushed in from our side. Pitched hand to hand combat started. Slowly the tide turned due to ferocity of our counterattack despite being outnumbered 3:1 by the Chinese. The treacherous Chinese plan, as reconstructed, was to heavily outnumber and massacr

FDI IN DEFENCE : SOME THOUGHTS BY LT GEN P R SHANKAR (R)

Original Article @ https://www.vifindia.org/article/2020/june/20/fdi-in-defence-some-thoughts When our Finance Minister announced the raising of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) limit in the defence sector under the automatic route from 49% to 74% 1  it was reported as a ‘big push’ for Make in India. It was simultaneously reported that it will encourage multinationals to set up manufacturing bases in India or acquire local companies but will hit hard the local companies who do not have any access to technology or government orders. Almost one month has passed and the only sound is of silence on this front. Even defence experts have not discussed this issue. Hence it needs some discussion. Why do we need FDI in Defence sector? The first order effect is that Indian Armed Forces get hi-tech weapon capability. It must be capability whose technology we do not possess and are unable to develop or invest in for many reasons. The second order effect is that such investment will bring in technol

Wuhan to Galwan : The Chernobyl Factor by Lt Gen P R Shankar (R)

Original Article @  https://thedailyguardian.com/wuhan-to-galwan-the-chernobyl-factor/ CHINA IS CAUGHT BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE  WITH ITS BABY IN ITS LAP, ‘THE WUHAN VIRUS’ CRYING FOR MORE Do not trouble the trouble until the trouble troubles you. This is common sense and not Sun Tzu. I suppose that is why the Chinese have not heard of it. At Galwan they did trouble the trouble and they have ended up with more trouble than they have bargained for. Despite all their lies, deception, attempting to change facts on ground, disregard for a rules-based order, presenting themselves as an injured party and more, no one believes them since everyone knows the truth.  They have got a taste of what India can mete out to them.  They will get more if they continue to ask for it. Ladakh is not South China Sea and India is not a Vietnamese fishing boat which can just be run over.    I will not get into the intricacies of the faceoff incident at Galwan. There is an overload of information abou

Defence Procurement Advisory Board by Lt Gen P R Shankar (R)

Original Article Published @  http://epaper.deccanchronicle.com/articledetailpage.aspx?id=14934370 It was long thought that nuclear, space and missile programs will provide us with Security and ‘Stability’. However ‘Instability’ due to threat from China and Pakistan has increased recently. This is happening at a time when the Pandemic is devastating our economy. The PM has responded to the Pandemic with the ‘Atma Nirbharta’ call. Thereafter, the FM and the CDS in a major shift in future defense procurement have emphasized the need to hand hold Indian defense industry. Resultantly, India must indigenize weapon procurement, in recessionary conditions with reduced budgets. The available budgets must cater for old as well as emerging technologies.   Overall India is in a strange ‘Stability - Instability’ paradox in which we cannot let our guard down even momentarily despite the Pandemic . Under such conditions we must reduce imports through Import Substitution of small parts and compo

Outline of a Counter UAV Philosophy By Lt Gen P R Shankar (R)

Article Published in the USI Journal Period:   January 2020 - March 2020 Abstract The employment of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in war and peace is proliferating rapidly. These are being used for offensive and defensive roles, to include surveillance, attack and logistics, besides other complimentary tasks. They are changing equations of conflict as was evident in the attack by a swarm of UAVs on the Aramco oilfields and ferrying of arms across the well fenced Indo-Pak border. Their role in non-contact warfare is increasing. In such a scenario, it becomes imperative that effective counter UAV systems are developed. As of now there is absence of a cogent counter UAV philosophy. Some counter UAV measures are being propagated and marketed in an inorganic and isolated manner. There is a requirement to have an overarching and holistic philosophy to counter the UAV threat.  The counter UAV philosophy needs to be based on established threat patterns of adversaries. Thereafter, the vulnera
