A Pakistani View of Farm Protests

I found this article in Dawn titled   When Farmers Protest written by Amber Darr. If I had to give it a title l would call it ‘ Neighbours Envy Owners Shame’! The lady gives a very balanced view of the farmers protests unlike most of the other Pakistanis who are revelling in the the disturbance it is creating in our country. She gives a new perspective to the protests. The crux is her observation and sense conveyed when she says 'both sides have merit and need to be balanced through negotiations in light of India’s national priorities '. I do hope our Government, Politicians and Farmers see this article and derive the sense contained in it....FIND THE MIDDLE GROUND! At times it takes an outside view to drive some sense home...read it... Beyond the Farmers Agitation By Lt Gen P R Shankar (R)

India was born in the blood bath of partition. Protests, riots and demonstrations have a long history here. One has seen upheavals like the Anti Hindi agitations (60s), the Railway Strike (70s), the Bombay Mill strikes and the Farmers agitation (80s), the Mandal Commission protests (90s) and many more. Communal riots which started with Independence crisscrossed the country to touch Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bombay, Bhiwandi, Hyderabad, Nellie, Godhra, Bhagalpur, Meerut, Muzaffarpur, Kandhamal and many more places at different times till the recent one at Delhi again. One has seen violent agitations for Telengana, Asaam, and Punjab. We have had Rath Yatra’s, demolition of the Babri Masjid as well reservation movements for Jats, Patels and Gujjars to name a few.    The Idea of India has been challenged many times. At one level, the endemic North East insurgencies and the Naxalite/Maoist movements, based largely on internal aspirations. challenged the Idea. At another level Pakistan has ...

Back To Pakistani Blackmail With A Gun To Its Head by Lt Gen P R Shankar (R)

Long back, when the Soviet Russia invaded Afghanistan, USA was worried that Pakistan could be rolled over next and join hands with India. USA would then lose not only its base but the region also; having lost Iran and being inimical to India. In 1979, the Carter administration panicked. It offered a $400 million military and economic package, to beef up Pakistani defences. Zia ul-Haq famously turned down the offer as ‘peanuts’.  Later, the Reagan administration gave in. It parted with about three billion dollars in economic assistance and two billion in military aid. It also gave three billion dollars to Afghan jihadis. These funds were  funnelled through the ‘sticky hands’ of the ISI . This tee-d off the signature Pakistani  strategic behaviour  where  ‘ it negotiates with the world by holding the gun to its own head: Give me what I want, or I will blow my brains out. You then handle the mess ’.   A combination of Nuclear Poker and Russian Roulet...
