INDIAN OPTIONS TO THWART PAKISTAN - POST 370 BY LT GEN P R SHANKAR (R)

This is a follow up of my earlier articles Post abrogation of  Article 370 - The Road Beyond 370  and  Shape of Things to Come From Pakistan Post 370 A thought for all Indians A historic step has been taken in the abrogation of Article 370 It is irrevocable It is for us to win Kashmiris over with a lot of soft power or lose Kashmir with a lot of hard power In any case we must keep Pakistan at bay with all the hard power at our disposal. No Garlands Mr Qureshi Shah Mehmood Qureshi was right. There were no garlands for Pakistan in the UNSC. The Chinese support was counterproductive and tepid. After all, on this score they have too many “Kashmirs” of their own – Hong Kong, Xinjang, Tibet and Taiwan. Kettle calling the pot black!   China has its major issues. They will support their rusted Iron brother up to a point and no more.   Barring lip service China will let Pakistan stew in its own juices thereafter. That has been their historical stand in any Indo Pak frac

THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME FROM PAKISTAN POST 370 BY LT GEN P R SHANKAR (R)

This is a follow up on my earlier article  @  https://palepurshankar.blogspot.com/2019/08/the-road-beyond-370-by-lt-gen-p-r.html The Views Across Abrogation of Article 370 and associated actions have given us tremendous initiative and has shocked Pakistani thinkers and establishment. The rug has been pulled from under their feet. For Pakistan the issue is not Kashmir. It is about Pakistani revenge on India in which Kashmir and its people are only pawns. Their reactions and views, though predictably anti India and pro Pakistan/ Kashmir are balanced and realistic to their situation as they see it. There is unanimity on issues..... Pakistan is facing one of its toughest challenges which it will find hard to meet if it remains stuck in its traditional mode of thinking on Kashmir.... Pakistani options are limited.... War is no option.... Promoting Jihad could ensure that the FATF sword falls on them.... The economy is in distress zone....  No one is waiting with garlands in UNSC

THE ROAD BEYOND 370 BY LT GEN P R SHANKAR (R)

A SIMPLISTIC APPROACH IN A COMPLICATED WORLD  Preamble Abrogation of Article 370 has evoked national level discussion. The public debate has been of the history and at best the present. The valley has been shut down and understandably uncommunicative. However, the deed is done, and it is time to look ahead. What is to happen in the future is something we must think of. For a starter, things will never be the same again. In one stroke, the state of J&K has transmuted from being disputed territory to undisputed territory sovereign to India. It is easy to predict the run up to a nuclear explosion, but how the fall out will pan out and what the consequences will be – intended or unintended are quite unpredictable. It will be no different here. To a large extent, India has entered uncharted territory with the abrogation of Article 370. As it charts a new course forward, everyone will have to find a new normal. The opportunity and thre

A FRAMEWORK FOR DEFENCE INTERACTION WITH IITS By LT GEN P R SHANKAR (R)

This is an extension of my article  Defence Technology - An Indian Conundrum KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.  IT COMES FROM RESEARCH. RESEARCH GENERATES TECHNOLOGY . TECHNOLOGY OWNED IS CHEAP. TECHNOLOGY BOUGHT IS COSTLY From Oxymoronism to a Framework India lacks adequate defense technology. It needs to invest in defense R&D if it must be a power of reckoning. It needs to break its trader mentality. It needs need leadership and massive involvement of our academics in research. These oxymorons are well known. That is probably why the PM has asked the IITs to contribute by coming up with indigenous defense technologies. So far so good. How does one do it? That has been our zillion-dollar question. The fact that outsiders have been better at tapping our brain power and technological potential is also another oxymoron. Hence, I am shifting from pontificating to suggesting a framework on which this entire thought process should progress. So, let us begin with a SWOT
