A Peek Into Everyday China : XI Pictures of XIs China

A picture is worth a thousand words....here are XI pictures of XIs China. If you are wondering what they are..they are simply a collection of news headlines from South China Morning Post from 02 Sep to 10 sep 22 which landed in my mail. Very importantly almost 50% of the important analysis and headlines are largely negative in nature...you still think China is a superpower?....leave it you to take a call....lets start with the drought which incidentally is still continuing though temperatures have fallen.

    2. Dear RM,

Petty insults do nothing to enrich the conversation. Your comment resembles Indian current affairs TV talk shows. Six different guests shouting at each other at once. Nothing of substance is said. Can you rise above the demerits of your race and have an intellectual conversation? I return to my 3 questions for you.

      1. Are Indians prone to excessive national optimism?
      2. To what extent does high caste Hindu domination of the discourse especially in areas like international relations and strategy contribute to excessive national optimism?
      3. Is the high caste Hindu prone to personal hubris because of the inherent social hierarchy of Indian society and does the innate folly of upper caste Hindus spill over into international relations and strategy?

AGNIPATH : AN INSIDERS VIEW FROM OUTSIDE

As per reports the government is set to finalise the ‘Agnipath’ nee ‘Tour of Duty’ recruitment scheme, under which youth can enlist in the Army for three /five years and be known as ‘Agnivirs’. It is being envisaged that 25% of them would serve for three years and 25% for five years, the remaining 50% would serve for the full term till they reach the retirement age. This major reform is expected to significantly reduce the age profile of the Armed forces. This reform will also result  in significant reduction of pensions. It will curb the ballooning salary and pension bills that are adversely impacting military modernization. Under this arrangement, after completing 3 or 5 years of service, the Army will help the soldier/officer to be recruited in other services. The soldiers would be given a pay-out along with priority in recruitment to certain government jobs, including the central armed police forces. An effort is also on to nudge corporate India into hiring such ...

POLITICAL CRUMBLING OF THE LAST BASTION by LT GEN P R SHANKAR (RETD)

The politicization of the last bastion of India is well and truly underway. The beeline of Armed Forces officers in joining a political party is just the latest milestone in this journey. More will follow. That will be to the detriment of national security, in the short run. Very definitely. In the long run. It is debatable since the nation is into uncharted oceans. At the outset I must state, that this is an apolitical analysis of a symptom for which I do not have answers. There is a view that unless Service Officers join the political platform, there will be no redressal of the imbalances our Services and nation face. That is agreed to. However, for that to happen, induction of retired service personnel into politics must be across the political spectrum and not confined to one party alone. If it is only one party which is attracti...

A PLAN TO RETAKE PAK OCCUPIED KASHMIR, GILGIT AND BALTISTAN BY LT GEN P R SHANKAR (RETIRED)

Times Have Changed Abrogation of Article 370 has changed the Indo-Pak landscape in toto. It has irreversibly cemented J&K as an integral part of India like other states. It has brought into focus the future of illegally occupied POK and Gilgit-Baltistan. The statements of Shri Rajnath Singh that further dialogue with Pakistan will be on POK has deep ramifications. Maharaja Hari Singh acceded the complete state of Kashmir including Gilgit, Baltistan, Kashmir, Jammu, Leh and Ladakh to India in 1948. These areas were never acceded to Pakistan. Were they? Hence all this is Indian Territory. On the other hand, Pakistan signed a standstill agreement with the ruler but broke it and invaded Kashmir [1] . Pakistan occupied POK by force. Gilgit and Baltistan were amalgamated into Pakistan through British perfidy. Pakistan has consistently denied treating these areas as its provin...
